Krka national park. Croatia
Krka is a watery paradise, we were in love with this place, waterfalls, lovely
swimming and boating on the river, the whole atmosphere made for a great day.

"The national park is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. The purpose of the park is primarily to serve science, culture, education and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its visitors.
Including the submerged part of the river at the mouth, the Krka River is 72.5 km long, making it the 22nd longest river in Croatia. It springs in the foothills of the Dinara mountain range, 2.5 km northeast of Knin. With its seven waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon. The travertine waterfalls of the Krka River are the fundamental phenomenon of this river."

Fish are plentiful, not afraid of any hook as there are none here.
The varying colours and cascades are a delight.
In the summer heat, a refreshing dip is essential, despite being busy we find
our own spot.
A visit to Krka would not be complete without a boat trip.
This boat trip took us up to Visovac Island which has a Franciscan monastery –
which still operational apparently. The boat trip was up a mildly flowing
river, it was hot so we were glad to have a sun shelter canopy.
The island was very interesting and the time was just enough for us to enjoy
the monastery and its exhibits.
The monks keep a very tidy house, the gardens are carefully manicured and its
all free of litter despite the number of visitors.
Aside from the watery paradise, this area is significant for the success of
one of mankind’s most significant inventions. Nicola Tesla with AC
current powers up the town with hydroelectric generation.
